🔴 Social Dance Party Information for December 2025
Overview
The English version of this party information is intended for foreign residents in Japan as well as dance enthusiasts visiting from overseas.
The social dance parties listed here are mainly attended by older adults, typically in their 60s and above, who gather to enjoy dancing as a hobby and to maintain their health.
The participation fee for most events is around ¥1,000. For this reason, venues are often public gyms or community centers. Please note that some of these venues may not have air conditioning or heating, so be mindful of the weather and dress appropriately for the season.
Most venues are located far from train stations, and participants usually travel by car. Buses are infrequent and may be inconvenient. If you are coming from a distance, we recommend taking a train to the nearest station and then using a taxi to reach the venue.
Please be sure to bring your own dance shoes and change into them at the entrance.
While there may be very few English speakers at these events, we encourage you to enjoy communicating with the local dancers—even in simple Japanese.
Dances typically include:
Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep, Jitterbug (Jive), Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha-cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, and more.
